14w3d: Out

My belly and the word are both out. I have told my close friends, family, and my boss. I have booked childcare. Random colleagues are coming up to me to wish me congratulations. Presents are starting to appear in the mail.

Apart from the few moments of terror and fear, I am mostly starting to feel a little bit excited. Cautiously optimistic, sometimes. I am now officially in my second trimester.

Frustratingly, I am still having trouble finding a consistent heartbeat with my cheap eBay doppler. I am trying not to worry too much, as even the tech couldn't get a good abdominal scan at my last ultrasound with her fancy-pants machine. I have my next check-up in 11 days.

Finally, I will not be able to make it to my next IVF support group dinner. I have not yet told any of the ladies my news, as I do not see any of them outside these events. Should I send an email? Should it be individual or reply-all? What should it say?

  1. The time between visits is endless, isn't it?! Has anyone else in your support group become pregnant before you - and if so how did she tell people? Or is there someone you either know better than the others you can check etiquette with - or someone who has been with the group a while you can ask? (It's the middle of the night, well 4:45, and I'm on my phone so I might not be able to sign in as TasIVFer but it's me.)

  2. So wonderful to hear!! Its a huge milestone and it must feel so nice.

  3. YAY :) Thanks for the update! Was wondering how you were doing! Can't believe you are already in the 2nd trimester - time is flyin'!

  4. 14w3d! how awesome! You are in your second trimester by all trimesterly calculations.

I'd say tell them. Make sure you say you wanted to tell them in person. I think a group email is okay since you know them as a group.

How "out" is your belly? Are you wearing maternity clothes? Gosh, I am so excited for you!

  5. Yay yay yay for the 2nd trimester!! This is quickly becoming very real!!

I think a group email is totally fine.

I, too, want to know how "out" your belly is... can strangers tell yet??

  6. Congrats on being 'out'. I absolutely freaked out after I announced on f/b- suddenly realized that I couldn't take it back!

SO happy to hear you are safely in the second trimester. I didn't believe anyone when they told me this, but the time is really going to start to fly now. Try to enjoy it as much as you can- I didn't do a very good with that, and I regret it.

  7. job. Didn't do a very good job. Stupid lack of editing!

  8. Delightful news to share. I hope your confidence grows right along that wonderful belly.

  9. You're moving right along my dear :)

It's so hard to decide how to handle the IVF support group. I'm sure you've contacted them by now so my advice is overdue. I hope it went as well as could be expected.
