17w6d: Quickening

On 10:30am on Valentines Day, I was sitting in front of my computer focusing on a Word document, when I felt a tiny little *something* in my lower belly. At first I didn't pay it much attention, and then, when I realised what it could be, the rest of the world suddenly disappeared.

All I could focus on was these soft little flutters above my pubic bone. Flutters the like of which I had never felt before. This was the day I first felt our little one move inside me. Now, about twice a day, after I have been sitting quietly for an hour or so, I feel these little wiggles and tickles and pokes that are delightful and charming.

Each day, it is starting to feel more real.

Now, we are off for a two-week babymoon to pass the time until our 20 week scan. Fourteen quiet days near the sea (and a world class hospital) to celebrate what will hopefully be our last vacation as a family of two.

  2. I think the movements were my favourite part of pregnancy. I could spend ages staring at my bare belly, just waiting for a little bit to poke out here or there. I can only imagine how much more I'd have seen if I hadn't had an anterior placenta, but towards the end I could sometimes see a little heel travel across under my ribcage, or feel a little fist poke out by my pelvic bone. Enjoy these magical moments!
Hope you have a wonderful babymoon...

  6. Man, I, TOO, was sitting at the computer when I felt those first little flutters. I guess that speaks for the modern working woman!

I am so excited for you to be at this point, just weeks away from the "big" scan and baout to head off on vacation. ENJOY your time away!!!

  7. Whee! I can't exactly remember where I was when I first felt flutters, because it took me a couple of days to be sure that's what it was, but I do remember sitting on the subway going to a party with Q. and being absolutely positive that it was the baby I was feeling. LOVE that you are feeling your bub bounce around.

Mine is now into the 'pummel without mercy' stage, and I have to admit I spend a lot of time with my shirt up just watching the belly bounce around. I can't identify body parts (maybe because of the anterior placenta) but bub certainly makes his/her presence known!

Have a wonderful holiday! Enjoy your time together as a family of two (plus one).

  9. I have been feeling little things too, but I can't be 100% sure what they are. It's so great that you knew completely what yours was. (It actually makes me question whether I'm feeling baby or just sloshing around). How exciting! Have fun on your babymoon!
